Reason Why DCI Officer Was Killed in Kayole

Residents of Mihang’o area in Nairobi are still finding it hard to come to terms with an incident whereby a police constable attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Makadara was shot dead by three armed robbers while going home on Tuesday night.

David Mayaka, the police constable was driving home in his car in the company of Hellen Kemunto, his wife the night he lost his life at around 10 pm. His car had suddenly slowed down due to a puncture. He alighted to change the wheel before three men on a motorcycle approached disguised as good samaritans.

Moments later, there was an altercation between the three men and Mayaka. When Mayaka tried to reach his licensed gun from his car, one of the robbers shot him on the abdomen killing him and his wife was shot on the leg as she attempted to flee the scene.

Confirming the incident is the Nairobi police boss, Adamson Bungei, who said that the men jumped into their motorcycle before fleeing after committing the murder.

The police believe that the three men were robbers and they were trying to steal from Mayaka. It is suspected Mayaka might have resisted causing him his death. The police have however launched investigations into the incident to establish the actual motive of the murder.

The whole incident was captured on a CCTV camera that was nearby which the police are using in the investigation. Mayaka’s body was taken to the morgue for preservation while his wife was rushed to the hospital where the bullet was removed from her body.
