If Atwoli did not love meddling in Kenyan politics he would be everyone’s favourite grandfather. Chubby, generous and short grandpa with a vulgar mouth. Kids love that. But this is not a game, the COTU boss is a national figure and for some unknown reason the darling of mainstream media. They follow him around with microphone like a faithful puppy. Sometimes his statements are humorous but most of the times they are very divisive in our already taut political atmosphere.

Atwoli has been the Don in recent BBI campaigns and in Raila’s push to ascend to presidency at the fifth time of asking. He has been hosting dinners at his expansive Isinya home always ending with a pic to feed the bloggers. Atwoli attacks Ruto and praises Raila in equal measure. For a long time, his conviction that Raila will succeed President Uhuru has been unshakeable. Until the time he decided to abandon Raila at the time he might be needed most.

According to Atwoli, Kenya is a monarch where the president reserves all the rights to appoint crown prince and eventual successor. What is shocking is that Atwoli no longer sees Raila as crown prince. He has changed loyalty and decided to support Gideon Moi the Baringo senator for the top seat. According to Atwoli, Gideon will get blessings from President Uhuru to become the fifth president of our republic.

“He (Uhuru) cannot vacate power without knowing who will take care of the country, he cannot surrender power to Ruto.

“In the whole group he can only trust Gideon, he can compromise and have Gideon in power. Ruto supporters are confused about where they are going,” explained Atwoli.

Atwoli had even some words of wisdom for our head of state on how to get Mt Kenya rallying behind Gideon Moi. Atwoli advised the president to tell his backyard that Ruto should not be trusted since he opposed President Moi. It is not clear how that is supposed to be a tactic when even almost everyone in Mt Kenya at one point opposed President Moi. Actually, the COTU boss might be the only Kenyan who never disagreed with Moi at any point.

Atwoli just a few weeks ago had endorsed Raila. It is not clear why the change of heart and support of Gideon Moi. Gideon himself has never been vocal in the push towards presidency. He is okay with remaining anonymous and the occasion “I vat yes/no”.

“I am endorsing Murathe’s proposal for Raila Odinga being a candidate in 2022 because he is the only man who brings Kenya together, and he has supporters, suicidal supporters

“I know by 10 a.m. in the morning he will have won the seat as the president with the support of Central and other places,” said Atwoli.
