Kalonzo aache ulevi, says Ruto

2022 politics are on top gear with two years to go. Presidential hopefuls have started campaigning in earnest. They are competing who can pull bigger crowds or chide the other most.

Kalonzo caused controversy with his careless remarks that no Kamba should vie for a gubernatorial post in Taita Taveta. He said the best Kambas can hope for is a Deputy Governor. Kalonzo might not have meant it but maybe he was trying to woo votes from Taita and Taveta tribes.

His careless statement was pounced by Ruto. He said that some people are drunk with tribalism. This was in reference to Kalonzo’s statement in Taita Taveta. Ruto could not let pass an opportunity to attack his opponent. Kalonzo speaking in Konza Technopolis had said that Ruto should be very scared because this time he meant business.

If Kalonzo will be making such careless remarks which could potentially ignite ethnic tensions, then it’s him who should run scared not Ruto. His comments in Taita Taveta County were unwelcome considering the large population of Kambas in Taita Taveta County especially in Mwatate region. The remarks also come at a time when there’s border dispute between Makueni and Taita Taveta County.

Ruto said that tribe is never a factor in politics. Admonishing Kalonzo, Ruto said that choosing a leader should not be based on someone’s tribe.
