I can’t allow a Kamba to be governor in Taita, says Kalonzo

Many a times bemused Kenyans have vowed, “Nothing Kalonzo will ever say that will shock me again.” Give credit to the Wiper leader. He makes us eat our words time and again.

When Kalonzo skipped the mock swearing in ceremony it was a non issue. No one had expected him to go anyway. The most Kalonzo way was skipping the ceremony. When the son of Tseikuru while being projected on national television said, ‘Mimi ni mtu ya mkono’ well that shook every Kenyan. For a hundredth time Kalonzo had managed to embarrass himself once again.

Kalonzo now has gone and done the unthinkable. Denying Kenyans their right to choose a candidate of their liking. A right that’s protect by a sacred document: Kenyan Constitution (2010).

Kalonzo was recently made a Senior Counsel. A small exclusive club that has the top notch lawyers in the country. With his farce in coastal region, we should assume his appointment might have been political. Otherwise how can Kalonzo not know that any Kenyan has a fundamental right to seek election in any part of this country?

Kalonzo trying to please a small crowd in Taita Taveta said that he cannot allow a Kamba to vie for governor in Taita Taveta county. He said that seat exclusively belongs to the natives.

It’s not clear who gave Kalonzo the right to dictate where Kambas can vie or not vie. His statement can also spark ethnic tensions considering a lot of Kambas have settled in Taita Taveta County.

His careless comments are unwelcome in a time when there’s a border dispute between Makueni and Taita Taveta counties.
