Uhuru Breaks Silence With a Shocking Message to Raila

After days of silence, former President Uhuru Kenyatta has reportedly expressed support for Raila Odinga’s bid for the African Union job. According to a report in Sunday’s Standard publication, Kenyatta is allegedly backing Odinga, despite previous speculation that he was supporting former Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete.

David Murathe stated that Kenyatta has always favored Odinga for the AU position, despite initial reports suggesting otherwise. Murathe noted, “Most East African countries initially supported Uhuru Kenyatta for the AU job. However, now they support Raila Odinga because the Kenyan government is backing him.” This shift follows unverified reports accusing Kenyatta of abandoning Odinga by endorsing Kikwete for the role.

Kenyatta had previously garnered support from several East African countries, including Uganda, Tanzania, Sudan, and Ethiopia, to succeed Moussa Faki as the next African Union chairperson.

This development marks a significant victory for Raila Odinga, especially considering speculation that he may face challenges in running for the presidency in 2027.
