Raila Forced to Endorse Kalonzo

During the funeral of Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s brother-in-law in Kitui County, tensions flared over the One Kenya Alliance’s presidential flagbearer. Raila Odinga, the coalition leader, strategized on selecting a unified candidate to challenge President William Ruto in 2027.

Odinga assured the Kamba community that he’s open to backing Musyoka for the presidency, acknowledging his pivotal support in past elections. He stressed the importance of inclusivity, highlighting the voices of the Alliance’s 26 affiliate parties in decision-making.

Despite Odinga’s endorsement, Musyoka’s allies remained skeptical, lamenting the community’s perceived exclusion from the flagbearer selection process. Odinga countered, emphasizing his personal connection with Musyoka beyond political affiliations.

However, regional leaders, led by governors, challenged Odinga’s approach, warning of the Alliance’s potential failure in 2027 if it delayed announcing its candidate.

Makueni Governor, Mutula Kilonzo Junior, urged the Alliance to declare its candidate early, positioning themselves as a viable alternative government and allowing ample time for nationwide campaigning.
