Kalonzo Sends Early Warning to Raila Odinga

Former Defense Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa has spoken out following Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s declaration that he will run for president in 2027, distancing himself from supporting Raila Odinga’s bid.

Kalonzo mentioned his intention to either challenge President William Ruto or retire from politics during an interview with NTV on Sunday.

Wamalwa, addressing the matter in Kiminini Constituency on Monday, emphasized the democratic nature of the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Alliance.

He stressed that every member has the right to express their presidential ambitions within the movement and asserted that, in due course, the alliance would collectively decide on the most suitable candidate to contest against Ruto.

Acknowledging Kalonzo’s announcement, Wamalwa hinted at the possibility of his own presidential aspirations, stating, “Soon you will be hearing that Wamalwa also wants to be president.”

Emphasizing the democratic principles within Azimio, he assured that the alliance would utilize appropriate channels to democratically select its candidate, whether it be Kalonzo, himself, Raila, or others.

Wamalwa dismissed concerns that the NADCO report would fracture the coalition. As MPs prepare to debate the report upon resuming the session in February, he expressed confidence in the coalition’s unity despite speculations of potential divisions.

The former Defense Cabinet Secretary highlighted the need for a systematic approach in choosing the alliance’s presidential candidate, advocating for a process that ensures fairness and inclusivity.

He conveyed that the decision-making would unfold at the right time, utilizing the alliance’s established channels.

While discussing the potential contenders for the presidency within Azimio, Wamalwa mentioned Raila Odinga and hinted at the uncertainty surrounding Raila’s decision to contest in 2027.

Nevertheless, he underscored the democratic ethos of the movement, reiterating that all principals within Azimio were free to declare their presidential ambitions early on.

Wamalwa emphasized the democratic principles, systematic decision-making processes, and unity within the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Alliance.

He reassured that the coalition would navigate its presidential candidate selection democratically, dispelling concerns about internal divisions and expressing confidence in the alliance’s cohesion.

As the political landscape unfolds, Azimio remains committed to a fair and inclusive approach to choosing its representative for the 2027 presidential race.
