Uhuru Finally Makes a Move to Save Azimio

Ex-President Uhuru Kenyatta held a meeting with Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga, marking a significant step towards a robust opposition coalition.

Two photos were shared by insiders, capturing the gathering of the two leaders with Jubilee Party members, including those from Kiambu County.

Pauline Njoroge, the Deputy Organising Secretary of the Jubilee Party, conveyed the event, highlighting the presence of leaders from Kiambu County and other parties.

Although the public has yet to know the purpose of the meeting, gatherings attended by the two coalition heads have been rare in recent months.

This week, the opposition accused the former Head of State of forming an alliance with President William Ruto.

In a matter of weeks, the ex-President held discussions with ambassadors from three first-world countries—Chinese Ambassador Zhou Pingjian, Meg Whitman (US), and British High Commissioner Neil Wigan—all at his Nairobi office. Over the weekend, Azimio leaders criticized these meetings, alleging ties with those who supported President Ruto in the 2022 elections.

Kaluma questioned the rationale behind Uhuru Kenyatta’s meetings and urged him to steer clear of individuals like US Ambassador Meg Whitman. Political Analyst Mutahi Ngunyi, however, remains unconvinced that the recent meeting between Uhuru and Raila signifies a robust opposition.

Instead, he accused the former President of keeping the former Prime Minister busy while offering no tangible benefits.

“Politics of the rocking chair. Uhuru is keeping Raila busy, taking him nowhere. If he could not make him President in 2022, what will he make him now? This is a trap and if I am wrong, I do not choose to be right,” he shared.

“Azimio is dead. It was the big con of our political history. Raila should focus on ODM because Jubilee is also dead. This is what he should tell Uhuru: ‘Nothing Personal, just business’.”
