Amount of Money Paid to Senators Inorder to Impeach Kawira

A member of the Senate privy to the intrigues of voting of Members on governor Kawira Mwangaza’s impeachment has emerged with fresh allegations. The senator spoke to the media on condition of anonymity.

As alleged by the senator, external forces outside the Senate who had interests in the outcome of the impeachment process offered huge sums of money to senators to try influence their decision.

The external forces allegedly wanted the senators they offered cash to to vote in favour of the impeachment of the governor and send her home packing.

Allegedly, money amounting to a few millions was offered to some members in efforts to convince them vote in favour of the county assembly.

The senator who made these revelation also alleged that some members of the Senate went ahead and accepted the bribe but allegedly changed their minds to impeach the governor.

According to him, some senators despite taking the four million bribe went ahead and saved the governor from the impeachment.

It should be noted that the results of the voting in the senate indicated that non of the seven charges levelled against the governor by the county assembly were proven to the required threshold to warrant an impeachment.

The Senate rejected the proposed removal from office of the governor by the Meru County Assembly.
