Reprieve At last to Governor Kawira Mwangaza

As the Senate prepares to vote in the proposed removal from office of the Meru county governor Kawira Mwangaza there’s suddenly something to keep her hope going.

This is after a number of Kenya Kwanza senators and some from the Azimio coalitions leaned on her side. This means that the members did not support her removal from office.

Taking his stand to debate, the majority leader of the Senate Aaron Cheruiyot took the side of the governor stating that non of the charges brought against the governor have been substanciated beyond reasonable doubt. The majority leader accused the MCAs of witch hunt and threatened to call for formation of a commission of inquiry to investigate the county assembly and propose disbandment.

Minority Whip senator Ledama Ole Kina also seconded the majority leader in stating that nothing has been proven against the governor.

It should also be remembered that majority leader informs the decision to be followed by the majority of the house members who fall in hi coalition.

Senator Boniface Khalwale who headed the last impeachment trial also sided with the governor accusing the MCAs of gender based violence.

By the time of going to press, non of the governors who stood up to speak had sided with the county assembly. More than a half of the senators had spoken. Most of the senators condemned the slurs made against the governor by Meru leaders.
