Governor Nearly Assassinated

Dr. James Gesami, Nyamira County’s Deputy Governor, narrowly escaped an assassination attempt, as confirmed by our sources. Dr. Gesami, who had been nominated by Governor Amos Nyaribo in January 2021, allegedly consumed a poisoned beverage just before his intended appearance at an event attended by President William Ruto in Nyanturago, Kisii County.

The Deputy Governor was rushed to a nearby hospital where he received treatment and was later discharged. He did not make it to the event where President Ruto was launching various development projects in the region.

The motive behind the poisoning attempt is still unknown, but some speculate that it could be linked to the political rivalry between Governor Nyaribo and his predecessor John Nyagarama’s allies.

Dr. Gesami is a former Member of Parliament for West Mugirango Constituency and a medical doctor by profession. He has been vocal in supporting President Ruto’s agenda and has urged Nyamira residents to vote for him in the 2027 general election.
