Kenya to Have 56 Counties Distributed in This Manner

Kenya is now set to have 56 Counties in the new proposal by the National Dialogue Committee and 40 more women in the national assembly and the senate.

The National Dialogue Committee which is chaired by both the National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichungwah and Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka has proposed the creation of 9 additional counties to make the country have 56 Counties.

It should be noted that the Building Bridges Initiative, BBI which the Supreme Court had quashed had also advocated for the creation of 70 additional Constituencies to bring the total number from 290 to 360.

The criteria by which the new counties will be created has however has not been revealed. The creation of 9 additional counties would mean that some counties would be split to give room for the new counties to be formed.
