REASONS WHY RUTO MUST RETIRE IN 2022

It’s worth noting that Ruto has had a remarkable career. A career he never envisaged when he was selling chicken for livelihood but one that started taking shape when he joined The University of Nairobi. He was active in Kalenjin affairs while at the University and that made the Former President Moi take notice of him.

A close relationship started and President Moi became his mentor and father in politics. Together with Cyrus Jirongo they would be given a blank cheque to start YK92. Against all odds they delivered Moi the Presidency even if it came at the expense of our economy. Kenya has never recovered from the weakening of the Shilling that was brought by excessive currency printing during the 1992 election campaigns.

The start of 1992 found Ruto preaching gospel in the streets of Eldoret but 12 months later would find him dining in State House and interacting with Kenyan bigwigs. It is amazing what 12 months would do to the destiny of a person especially if he has ambition as the Deputy President.

Fast forward 28 years later and it seems Ruto has reached pinnacle of his career and is heading towards an early political retirement. He had had a grand career but powers that may be has made a decision that he cannot occupy the top seat.

For the last five years, Ruto’s popularity has been greatly checked by corruption scandals. It seems there has been a clear set out plan to smear the DP with every corruption scandal that’s happening in the country. That has considerably made him lose appeal among the multitude and its results could be evidenced by last week’s political purge. There was no noteworthy protests from Kenyans online or physically about the purge.

The next phase was the BBI. With President Uhuru aligning himself with Raila Odinga, Ruto has been painted as someone who doesn’t want political unity. Worse still he has been painted as the hand that’s preventing the implementation of the President’s development agenda.

The third and final phase of securing his retirement from active politics has been rolled out. Withdrawing his political clout. All his loyalists are being hounded out of the government. From cabinet secretaries to nominated legislators they are being whipped out of the city or into submission. The opportunists have already jumped camp and are updating their online profile pictures with photos of the president. The true loyalists have found themselves fired and out of corridors of power.

On 22nd February 2016 Ruto was allegedly to have called Gideon Moi ‘uncircumcised’. The father made Ruto who he is today and with the insult, the son started plotting for his downfall. Poetic.
