Police Makes Huge Discovery in Kiptum’s Case

Three individuals suspected of visiting the residence of the late World Record holder Kelvin Kiptum shortly before his demise have been apprehended by the police.

On February 14, authorities in Elgeyo Marakwet took custody of the trio, detaining them temporarily at Kaptagat Police Station until 11 am.

Sub-county Commander Keiyo South, Abdullahi Dahir, confirmed the arrests, noting that one suspect remains at large. He disclosed that the apprehended individuals were being transferred to the County Criminal Investigations Officer in Elgeyo Marakwet for further interrogation.

Commander Dahir clarified that the investigation was prompted by allegations from Kiptum’s father, indicating no prior reports before the father spoke to the press.

The three suspects were summoned for questioning after Kiptum’s father raised concerns about their unexplained visit, which occurred in Chepsamo village, Kaptarakwa ward, Keiyo South Constituency, Elgeyo Marakwet County, four days prior to Kiptum’s fatal accident.

Footage shared online depicted the men, middle-aged, being transported in a police van to the Elgeyo Marakwet County Commissioner’s office in Iten for further inquiries. The authorities have also seized the vehicle used by the suspects during the visit.

Moreover, Kiptum’s father positively identified the detained individuals following their arrest.

Samson Cheruyoit, Kiptum’s father, urged law enforcement to locate the visitors who failed to identify themselves during their earlier visit, which he deemed suspicious.

Tragically, Kiptum lost his life in a car accident along with his coach, while a female passenger survived with severe injuries when their vehicle veered into a ditch.
