Moses Kuria Makes His First Order as Public Service CS

Public Service, Performance and Delivery Management Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has cautioned public servants against laxity as he vowed to streamline the sector following his transfer to the ministry from the Trade docket on Wednesday.

Speaking on Thursday during the launch of Garissa Industrial Park, the CS issued a bare-knuckled warning to all public workers telling them to either shape up or ship out.

Kuria cited the millions of unemployed youth all over the country saying they’re ready to step in and fill gaps left by any public servant who is not willing to live up to the government’s expectations.

“If we continue joking, the problem of joblessness, despair and idleness among our youth is a disaster waiting to happen. We have to do everything possible to give them a chance to work and make their hustles matter,” he stated.

“Watu wafanye kazi, nitanyorosha hii serikali kabisa. If you can’t keep up, apply for an early retirement…talk to me, I will give you permission to retire and create room for our youths.”

CS Kuria cited his achievements in the Trade docket for the last 11 months saying he is motivated to tackle his next task in a similar manner and ensure a seamless public sector.

“I have developed businesses, export; our manufacturing is going up and industrial parks…I have been in office for about 11 months and 20 days and in that period, a third of counties in Kenyan are already industrializing,” he said.

“I leave this ministry with my head high, I am a very motivated person and very proud that the dream will not die.”

The CS similarly called out contractors, fellow ministers and Principal Secretaries in the country threatening to forward their names to the Head of State if they do not level up in their performances.

“I want to send a warning shot to all contractors who do public work. Ukiregarega tunakufukuza na hiyo kazi haitasimama…the NYS is ready to take over,” he said.

“To my fellow CSs, PSs, County Commissioners…si kwa ubaya but ukiregarega, nitatumia mdosi report. My office is here on the ground and you will see me in every corner of the country.”

Regarding the impromptu reshuffle on Wednesday, Kuria embraced his new role and intimated that he is willing to serve the country in any capacity that President William Ruto deems fit.

“The government does not sleep; it does not have a coma or full-stop. It is like a railway; a train moving in a straight line; either you are on this or the other side,” Kuria noted.

“We all have an obligation to work and help out the President in any task that he may allocate. I am now the CS for public service, performance and delivery.

Even if I were told to work in the gender ministry I would still take it and do it well. Because even the women and the youth deserve to be served.”
