I Will Never Vie Again, Moses Kuria Reveals

Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has firmly rejected the notion of running for the Kiambu governor position again, expressing his commitment to his current role at the Cabinet.

Speaking during the launch of the NYS Interventions for Agriculture and Food Security in Kitale, Kuria questioned the idea of leaving his national role to engage in county affairs.

“Never never. How can I leave this state called Kenya for Kiambu again?” he emphatically stated during an interview with KTN.

Reflecting on his defeat in the August 9, 2022, general elections, Kuria expressed gratitude for the 24,000 votes he received out of 1.3 million registered voters in Kiambu.

Despite the loss, he asserted that he presented his manifesto to the people and now has a significant opportunity to drive change not only for Kiambu residents but also for the entire country.

Having lost the governorship to Kimani Wamatangi, Kuria, who has previously served under two ministries as a Cabinet Secretary, conceded defeat before the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission announced the final results.

He announced his departure from elective politics, stating that he would be returning to the private sector after eight years of service as an MP.

Contrary to earlier declarations that he would exit politics if unsuccessful in securing the Kiambu governor seat, Kuria’s political journey took a different turn.

A month after his defeat, President William Ruto appointed him as the Trade and Industry Cabinet Secretary. However, in October 2023, Ruto reshuffled his cabinet, relocating Kuria to the Ministry of Public Service, Performance, and Delivery Management.

Addressing claims of demotion during the KTN interview, Kuria refuted such assertions, emphasizing the importance and prosperity of his current role. He explained that his responsibilities now include coordinating various projects, encompassing trade, water, and housing delivery.

Moses Kuria’s firm stance against vying for the Kiambu governor position, his gratitude for the votes received, and his current role in the Ministry of Public Service reflect a dynamic political journey marked by unexpected turns and a commitment to driving positive change on a national scale.
