Azimio Releases a Surprising Statement.

The National Dialogue Committee, which was formed to facilitate talks between the Azimio La Umoja Coalition and the Kenya Kwanza Alliance, will convene on Friday, August 25, 2023, after the technical teams from both sides complete their discussions.

This was announced by the committee’s co-chairs, Kalonzo Musyoka and Kimani Ichung’wah, on Monday at the Bomas of Kenya, where the talks are being held.

The committee, which comprises of 10 members from each coalition, was approved by the National Assembly last week and is expected to report to the leadership of both coalitions within 60 days.

The committee will also submit its report to Parliament and recommend appropriate legal and policy reforms on issues affecting Kenyans in line with the Constitution and respecting the functional and institutional integrity of state organs.

The technical teams, which consist of experts, professionals and other resource persons, have been tasked with framing the agenda items for consideration by the committee. The teams have been meeting daily since Tuesday and will continue until Thursday. The agenda items include constitutional amendments, electoral reforms, cost of living, devolution, national security and cohesion.

The committee’s co-chairs expressed goodwill and optimism on reaching a consensus on the contentious issues and resolving the political differences between the rival coalitions.

They also said they will not be distracted by remarks being made by politicians outside the dialogue process and urged Kenyans to support the initiative.
