Why Pregnant Woman Was Left Stranded For Hours in Kiambu Hospital.

Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi on Wednesday, July 5, explained that the pregnant woman who went unattended for hours was initially referred to Kenyatta Hospital but chose Kiambu Hospital due to a positive past delivery experience.

In a statement signed by the county’s Health County Executive Committee (CEC) Elias Maina Mbuthia, Wamatangi noted that the hospital was handling other emergencies at the time – making it difficult for the patient to receive services promptly.

The delay led to a commotion and verbal exchange which was captured on a video that has since gone viral.

The governor initiated the investigation and confirmed that stern action will be taken against any case of negligence across hospitals within his purview.

“The matter is being addressed at the highest level in the county government with Dr Elias Maina (CEC Health Services) initiating an investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding this unfortunate incident,” Wamatangi assured.

The county minister, in the letter, confirmed that the county government would install a Health Management Information System (HMIS) following the incident.

The County CEC indicated that the move would track the time a patient takes to be attended to in a certain hospital.

In the video, the lady complained that the patient arrived at the hospital at 5:00 am but was only attended to at 4:00 pm.

Due to the neglect, she lost her baby but was still unattended while the medical officers were accused of going about their activities with reckless abandon.

The woman captured in the video further divulged that the victim suffered from diabetes which was the clearest indicator that she had to be attended to promptly.

“As a mother, I feel her pain. She was here from 5:00 am but received treatment at 4:00 pm. The baby had already died and she is also diabetic. Her feet are swollen,” the lady lamented in the video.
