RUTO BREAKS SILENCE AFTER GACHAGUA’S MEETING WITH RAILA

Hours after Azimio la Umoja’s presidential candidate Raila Odinga met with Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, the ODM party has broken its silence.

Through a statement on his Twitter page, Philip Etale, director of communications for the ODM party, confirmed the meeting and said Raila and Gachagua met in the VIP lounge of Moi International Airport Mombasa.

He said the pair were waiting for their flight back to Nairobi and took time to greet each other as gentlemen. He said the two leaders had a brief meeting in the airport’s VIP waiting area. This comes after mixed reactions from Kenyans after photos of their meeting went viral on social media.

Previously, Prof. Makau Mutua, communications spokesman for Raila Odinga’s campaign, had neither confirmed nor denied the meeting. He said he didn’t know yet if the two had met.

However, the meeting seemed to elicit a range of reactions from both the Azimio and Kenyan Kwanza camps, with a segment of Azimio-allied leaders dismissing the meeting as having no bearing on their political stance.

“The photos of the Raila meeting with Gachagua struck Azimio La Umoja like a thunderbolt! Disbelief. Shock. I never understood why people think that just because you disagree politically, you shouldn’t meet your opponent anywhere! Kenyans are going to learn the hard way,” said ODM-affiliated blogger Abraham Mutai
