RESULTS FOR MOMBASA GUBERNATORIAL SEAT

UDA candidate for Mombasa gubernatorial race  Hassan Omar has expressed confidence that he will beat Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir of ODM in the ongoing mini-polls.

Speaking to the press after casting his vote, Omar however raised some of the issues that his competitors were up to while warning that, together with his team, they will take action themselves if the matters are not handled by police within an hour.

“There have been a few incidents  where some people tried to block the car that was delivering food to our agents. There is widespread bribery by ODM, we have asked the police to manage that or in the next hour we will manage it ourselves we will take no prisoners. We  have told the police structure particularly the county commissioner and the county commander it is time to live by the rules of democracy, and if they can’t we will actually enforce democracy  ourselves,” he said

“In the next one hour if I see incidences of Babu Owino and others moving with militia and actually bribing voters we are going to enforce that by ourselves,” he added.

Omar also noted that the voter turnout is low, which is a normal characteristic of by-elections, but hoped that by the end of the day many voters would have turned up to vote.

The mini-polls are going on in several areas after elections in the affected areas were postponed from August 9.

The exercise is going on in Kakamega for the gubernatorial election. Rongai, Kacheliba, Kitui Rural and Pokot South constituencies are voting for their MPs.
