RAILA FINALLY COMES TO AGREEMENT WITH KALONZO MUSYOKA

Former Prime Minister, Raila Odinga, through his presidential campaign secretariat spokesman, Makau Mutua, says Wiper leader, Kalonzo Musyoka, is right to make demands before rejoining Azimio One Kenya coalition party.

Speaking during an interview onK24 TVon Monday night, May 24, Mutua, however, stated that the Wiper party boss had not tabled any demands for ministerial positions since leaving the coalition.

He stated that the Azimio agreement was not being reviewed to add Kalonzo to the power sharing formula, stating that changes to the deed of agreement have to be ratified by the Azimio Council which is chaired by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

“The Azimio deed of agreement was agreed and signed upon by 26 parties that belong to it. That agreement is not open for negotiations at a particular moment.

“There are avenues of negotiating any changes to the agreement and must be processed through the council of the party. As far as I know, Wiper has not come to the council to petition any changes,” he stated.

Nonetheless, he acknowledged that Kalonzo has a huge following in the country and would be listened to if his team tabled a proposal to the council.

“Politics is about negotiations, bargaining, and what you can get. It is not about getting things on a silver platter. Kalonzo is a senior member of this society and an experienced politician, he commands a large following in some parts of the country.

“Obviously, he thinks that he deserves to be considered and we agree. We will have to consider him. When unveiling the Azimio running mate, we offered Kalonzo the position of Chief Minister,” Mutua explained.

Earlier, various reports indicated that the Wiper team wanted four ministerial slots , with discussions centering on the energy, health, tourism, and the water dockets.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke on Tuesday, May 31, Kitui Senator, Enoch Wambua, disclosed to Kenyans that the discussions were underway with official communication expected in the coming days.

Previously, Kalonzo’s allies have insisted that the Chief Minister position needs to be put in writing and deposited with the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) before backing Raila’s State House bid.

“One of the issues we have with Azimio is the legality of the Chief Cabinet Secretary

post. There is a need for some modification to make it legal because one has to be a Cabinet Secretary before they become a Chief Cabinet Secretary,” Makueni MP, Dan Maanzo, stated then.

Kalonzo is yet to make public his stand on rejoining Azimio with reports indicating that he has been holding a series of talks with Uhuru and Raila for the past one week.
