RUTO EXPOSES WHAT UHURU AND RAILA DID IN MOMBASA

Deputy President William Ruto has asked Coast residents to reject Azimio La Umoja leaders claiming they wanted funding to the region reduced.

He said President Uhuru Kenyatta and his handshake partner Raila Odinga have not been keen to increase funding to counties, particularly in the Coast.

DP Ruto spoke on Thursday while addressing a meeting in Garsen, Tana River.

“If they come to ask for support, especially Raila, you should ask him why he wanted Tana River allocations reduced. Ask him what he wants from you now,” he said.

Ruto further asked residents to reject leaders who are supporting Raila.

“Some leaders here are supporting people who do not want this county to get more funds. What could be the problem with these people? Perhaps they have been bewitched.

“Are you telling your leaders you do not need more money? If your leaders have enough money for their families, they should know it is not the same with you,” he said.

The Coast has overwhelmingly supported Raila in past elections. Opinion polls show Raila is still ahead though Ruto has made some gains in the recent past.

Ruto said Kenyans have a chance to elect people who understand the problems of ordinary people.

“When you go to the ballot, know why you are there. It will be your opportunity to elect leaders who will improve your lives,” he said.

The DP said their number one priority will not be to change the constitution but to grow the economy.

Tharaka Nithi Senator Kithure Kindiki said the Kenya Kwanza team will protect devolution.

He said Uhuru and Raila had conspired to reduce funding in some counties, particularly those at the coast.

“We remained steadfast as senators and that plan did not succeed. They wanted to change the formula of sharing money but we stopped it,” Kindiki said.

Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetang’ula said residents should come out in large numbers to vote for Kenya Kwanza.

“We should be one big family called Kenya Kwanza. If an ANC candidate wins, we should all be happy. It should be the same if UDA, Ford Kenya or any other party under Kenya Kwanza wins,” he said.

Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa said the coast region will totally reject the President’s preferred successor.

Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro also said Mt Kenya will not vote for Raila as Uhuru would want.

“We however understand him because he is looking for a person to succeed him and he wants someone he can control,” he said.

Nyoro said Mt Kenya people will vote for a leader who doesn’t understand what suffering is.

“He is selling Azimio outside Mt Kenya because everybody in his backyard is supporting Ruto. Even leaders in his ward in Gatundu including his MP and senator are supporting Kenya Kwanza,” he said.
