AMEACHWA? RAILA RECEIVES A LATE NIGHT BOMBSHELL

Presidential Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee’s pointmen and the National Assembly Majority leader Amos Kimunya has dismissed claims that candidates under the umbrella of Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition in Mt Kenya are avoiding using Raila Odinga’s photo in their campaigning for fear of losing elections.

Speaking to the press on Tuesday, May 3 in Kiambu County, Kimunya claimed that the politicians were only acting out of fear of Odinga was unpopular.

According to Kimunya, there is a general misconception in Mt Kenya that the ODM leader is unpopular in the region.

“It is a misconception part of which is because people do not quite appreciate the popularity of Raila in Mt Kenya. Granted he doesn’t have 100 percent but he does not have zero, it could be 50 percent but in the next two months it could increase,” Kimunya said.

Sentiment by Kimunya comes after allies of the ODM leader lamented that the Jubilee Party politicians who belong to the Azimio la Umoja coalition are not campaigning for the ODM leader’s presidential bid in Mt Kenya.

Even though President Uhuru Kenyatta publicly endorsed his handshake partner to succeed him at the Sagana 3 meeting, most aspirants have been technically avoiding campaigning for the ODM leader.

Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi recently urged Meru residents to vote for their favorite presidential candidate insisting he will not campaign for the ODM leader even though he will vote for him.

“Where has Kiraitu ever forced people to support Raila? What I have said is that my wife and I will vote for Raila because there is democracy and freedom of choice which we fought for.

“If Ruto wins, he will disburse funds to Kiraitu Murungi as governor, if Raila wins, he will also give funds to Kiraitu, because I will be governor. so, at the top, select whoever you may please.” however you choose, it’s alright, as long as you choose Kiraitu as your governor,” Kiraitu stated.

Unlike most grants within the Kenya Kwanza alliance who are openly associating themselves with Deputy President William Ruto, most Azimio la Umoja One Kenya candidates in Mt Kenya are only breaching their gospel.

Recent political polls indicate that the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya presidential candidate still lags behind his Kenya Kwanza rival Deputy President William Ruto. This, despite having the backing of President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Uhuru, who has publicly endorsed his handshake partner to succeed him at the Sagana 3 meeting, openly admitted to playing a role in creating a negative perception about Odinga in the region.

This, coupled with historical declarations like an oath allegedly to have been taken at Mzee Jomo Kenyatta’s Ichaweri home in Gatanga, prove to be a stumbling block in selling the Raila presidency in Mount Kenya.

On the other part, Ruto has been leveraging this discord to gain political mileage in the region. He has also used the current state of the economy to push his own agenda on economic revival.
