MP’s PLAN TO KICK OUT JUBILEE’S MAJORITY LEADER IN PARLIAMENT

MPs have now formed a rebellion against National Assembly Majority Leader Amos Kimunya accusing him of poor leadership saying he should be kicked out.

This was provoked by Kimunya’s decision to have the Division of Revenue Bill 2021 dealt with by the House despite complaints by the MPs that the National Treasury had delayed allocation of the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF).

Although they denied any plans to kick him out, Jubilee MPs allied to President Uhuru Kenyatta stated that the government agenda in the National Assembly was unclear.

The majority of MPs seeking to have the speaker step up in office stated that the president would not achieve anything with Kimunya as the leader.

“He needs to step up. The government agenda in the House is not clear and there is a lack of leadership,” said Nyeri Town MP Wambugu Ngunjiri, confirming the unease by MPs.

The Majority Leader is accused of not coming out clear on the position of the government on certain Bills, leaving MPs in the dark for direction.

“He needs to create briefs for government-allied MP, including ODM, and equip people with background and context enabling the chief whip to organise members. The other side seems more organised,” said Ngunjiri.

Although they denied any involvement, some of the named ring-leaders in the plot to remove the majority leader include chief whip Maoka Maora, Kieni MP Kanini Kega, Wambugu Ngunjiri and Kiambu Woman Rep Gathoni Wamuchomba.

“If such a thing were to be brought up, I would be the first to oppose it. I serve in the leadership of the House with Kimunya,” defended Maore.

Kimunya replaced Garissa Township MP Aden Duale who was voted out of the position in June 2020 after Duale and Maore gathered more than 130 MPs to support the motion.

According to the National Assembly’s Standing Orders, the leader of the majority may be removed by a majority of votes of all members of the largest party or coalition of parties in the National Assembly.
