UNKNOWN DETAILS OF WHAT TRANSPIRED BEFORE KANG’ATA WROTE TO UHURU

Details have emerged about what transpired before Senate Majority Whip Irungu Kang’ata wrote the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) controversial letter to President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The Muranga senator left many talking after his sudden change of mind on matters Building Bridges Initiative BBI drive after he wrote to President Uhuru telling him the initiative is unsellable in Mt. Kenya region.

The senate majority whip, who has been all along strong BBI supporter, though accepted he wrote the letter, denied leaking it to the media.

Senator Kang’ata, however, maintains that the issues in the letter are substantive, adding that he hopes they will be remedied.

“Kindly though the letter dated 30th December is authentic, I didn’t give it to the media. Someone else who had been copied did. I apologize for that. With the benefit of hindsight. I should have copied no one else. Trust substantive issues raised in the letter will be remedied,” said the Senate Majority Whip on Monday.

Questions have since then been raised on who might have influenced the legislator to make such a bold move against the BBI drive.

According to the Daily Nation, Kang’ata had been warned by his constituents and political strategists against opposing Deputy President William Ruto in the Central region.

The Senator reportedly hosted at least 24 opinion leaders and political strategists at his Murang’a home on the night of December 31, 2020, to assess and analyze Mt. Kenya politics.

It is during this meeting that the Senate majority chief whip is said to have asked his guests to be frank with him and tell him the truth about the reality on the ground.

To his shock, his guest told him that Mt. Kenya region was becoming DP Ruto’s stronghold and the BBI drive was perceived as non-important issue among the residents.

The political leaders also asked him to take a message to the President that Mt Kenya people were not happy with his new political formation and were feeling betrayed and alienated.

“He asked us to be honest with him because he wanted to be certain about the right political camp to join as he prepares to contest for Murang’a gubernatorial seat in 2022. The first thing we told him is that he was in a wrong camp and people were not happy with him since he was used to de-whipped William Ruto’s allies,” said Joshua Kigumo who was part of the meeting.

The publication noted the outspoken senator was cautioned against being used to oppose and fight DP Ruto.

He was also reportedly urged to consider working with the deputy president for his political survival. This saw Kang’ata cross into the new year a changed man.
