“The President is too young to retire”, Says Babu Owino

Embakasi East Mp Babu Owino is trending today for saying that President Uhuru Kenyatta is too young to retire. In his post, Babu Owino said that Kenya still needs the services of the president and so he must be the Prime Minister in the next government.

Many Kenyans are wondering if that’s the position of BBI recommendations which is expected to be tabled soon. Babu Owino is a key player in ODM and many expect him to be privy of the contents of the BBI. If Babu Owino’s post is to go by, it will mean the BBI will create a powerful prime minister most. The prime minister would normally be in charge of the Executive. If the handshake spirit mutates to a coalition, that would see the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga becoming the President.

Raila Odinga has said that the BBI must be passed through a referendum. That’s not an hurdle though. With almost every influential politician seemingly wanting to be part of Jubilee, the referendum process is being considered a formality and slam dunk.

Kenyans are expecting the former Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen to comment about Babu’s statement anytime from now. The Elgeyo Marakwet Senator has been active on Twitter lately and is the biggest critic of the handshake and BBI in general.
