Millions of Money Raila Will Earn as AU Chairperson

Raila Odinga, the former Prime Minister of Kenya, stands at the threshold of potentially wielding significant influence and reaping substantial financial rewards should he secure the coveted African Union (AU) Chairperson position.

This prestigious role not only carries formidable statutory duties but also promises a monthly salary of Ksh2.4 million, coupled with a range of additional privileges.

The Chairperson’s pivotal responsibilities span enforcing AU policies, crafting the Union’s financial blueprint, and advocating for AU interests on the global stage.

As the potential occupant of this esteemed position, Raila would be entrusted with steering the agenda of the African Union Commission, fostering collaboration with Member States and other stakeholders.

However, the Chairperson remains answerable to the collective leadership of Heads of State, necessitating transparent reporting to facilitate informed decision-making.

Beyond the substantial remuneration, the Chairperson is entitled to a monthly rental allocation of USD6,000, earmarked for accommodation and associated utilities.

Additionally, Raila’s spouse, Ida, would receive a stipend, while educational expenses for dependent children residing outside Europe and North America would be covered by the AU.

Raila’s candidacy has garnered notable endorsements, most notably from Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo.

However, his ultimate success hinges on rallying support from key figures such as Kenyan President William Ruto, underscoring the intricate web of alliances and negotiations characterizing AU leadership dynamics.
