Jackie Maribe Found Not Guilty on Monica Murder Case

Former Citizen TV anchor Jacque Maribe has been acquitted of the murder charges against her in the case of Nairobi businesswoman Monica Kimani.

Lady Justice Grace Nzioka delivered the judgement, emphasizing the lack of concrete evidence linking Maribe to the September 19, 2018 incident.

Maribe, along with her former boyfriend Joshua Irungu, also known as Jowie, had been charged in connection with Kimani’s murder. Kimani was found murdered in her Nairobi apartment shortly after returning from South Sudan.

Jowie, initially considered a suspect, was arrested soon after the incident. The police alleged his involvement as one of the last individuals seen with Kimani before her death.

Ten days following the murder, Maribe was arrested by the police, accused of complicity in the crime. The case, spanning over five years, saw testimony from 35 witnesses.

The prosecution leveled several accusations against Maribe, including her presence near the crime scene, the use of her vehicle in the offense, and allegations of misleading investigators by providing false information.

The court, however, found inconsistencies in Maribe’s statements, including falsehoods regarding a supposed shootout involving Jowie. Despite this, the judge ruled in Maribe’s favor due to insufficient evidence linking her directly to the murder.

Regarding Kimani’s cause of death, the court noted an irregular incisive wound on her neck, indicative of a sharp object, along with bruises on her wrists. The severity of the injuries suggested a perpetrator with military-like training and an intent to cause immediate death.

Ultimately, Maribe’s acquittal underscores the challenge of establishing guilt beyond a reasonable doubt in complex cases, highlighting the importance of thorough investigation and evidence-based decision-making in criminal proceedings.
