WhatsApp Group Admin Minting Millions By Selling Exam Papers

Kisii police officers have launched a manhunt for an individual who has been making money selling KCSE exam papers.

According to a police report, the suspect could be minting millions from the WhatsApp group members among other social media channels he has opened for the illegal trade.

According to police reports, the suspect charged Ksh10,000 each to send the examination papers to the 12,000 followers in various groups, an hour before exams.

One of the followers, a private student at Nyancwa Boys High School, was caught by a Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) official during the Mathematics Paper 2 exams.

As the KNEC official was going around the class, she saw a mobile phone placed on the table next to an open window inside a class adjacent to the exam room.

The phone was locked and could only be accessed by password. After the students completed the maths paper 2 exams, the KNEC official demanded to know the owner of the device and the private student stepped forward.

“She gave out the password code which was used in accessing the phone. Upon going through WhatsApp section, she discovered the real answered Mathematics paper 2 question paper having been posted therein,” read part of the police report.

Police officers attached to Kisii Police Station rushed to the scene and established that the sender had sent the answered Maths paper 2 to different groups by the time the paper commenced at 8:00 am.

The admin was demanding another Ksh10,000 from each member before sending Kiswahili Paper 3. The cell phone was recovered as an exhibit while the student was allowed to continue writing the subsequent papers.

Police officers have since launched investigations to identify and arrest the group administrator.
