Kawira Faces Fresh Demands

Tigania East Member of Parliament, Puru Aburi, is calling for a public apology from Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza following a video clip that surfaced during her recent impeachment hearing at the Senate.

In the controversial footage, MP Aburi is seen passionately expressing his grievances towards Governor Mwangaza, specifically targeting her personal life.

The video captures the legislator verbally attacking the governor for allegedly not having children with her current husband. MP Aburi’s charged address, accompanied by the symbolic act of rubbing a stick between his palms, was delivered in the Meru vernacular language, adding cultural nuance to the already contentious situation.

During the hearing, Governor Mwangaza, visibly emotional, relayed Aburi’s words to the Senate, stating, “He is saying he has given me 9 months to be pregnant, and if that is not done, he will do it via what he is holding.” The county boss shed tears while recounting the incident, bringing a personal and emotional dimension to the political controversy.

In response, MP Aburi vehemently denies the accusations, accusing Governor Mwangaza of manipulating the video to support her claims. He announced his intention to approach the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to file a statement and request a thorough investigation into the matter.

Aburi asserts his respect for the female gender, emphasizing that he has never made derogatory remarks against women.

“I want an apology from our Meru County Governor for spreading falsehoods. I am ready to write a statement, bring the unedited video, as I have my own recording of the words I spoke. Theirs was cut and spliced to falsely depict that Puru was disturbing the mothers,” stated MP Aburi in Swahili.

Governor Mwangaza, who recently survived her second impeachment attempt in less than a year, returned home triumphantly.

The controversy adds a layer of complexity to the already intense political landscape, raising questions about the role of personal attacks in public discourse and the need for ethical conduct among public figures.

The unfolding drama prompts concerns about the broader implications for political decorum and respect for personal boundaries in the Kenyan political sphere.
