Govt Officials Who Sexually Assaulted Kawira Mwangaza

Tigania East Member of Parliament Mpuru Aburi and Meru Deputy Governor Isaac Mutuma are facing potential investigation by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) following a petition filed by the Coalition Against Sexual Violence (CSV).

The petition alleges that the two leaders made vulgar remarks against Governor Kawira Mwangaza, bordering on sexual harassment. In the letter dated November 10, the CSV called for swift and decisive action, emphasizing that the leaders have fallen short of the conduct expected from public officers.

The coalition demands that the EACC takes the matter seriously and holds the leaders accountable for their actions through appropriate recourse.

“Their actions deserve swift and decisive action. We demand that the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission take on this matter as these leaders have clearly fallen short of the conduct for a public officer,’ read part of the statement.

Furthermore, we demand that they be held accountable for their actions through appropriate recourse.”

The Coalition Against Sexual Violence (CSV) has not only called for an investigation but also demanded that MP Mpuru Aburi and Deputy Governor Isaac Mutuma publicly withdraw their disparaging remarks and issue an apology to Governor Kawira Mwangaza.

According to the CSV, the offensive comments about the governor’s marital status and womanhood are irrelevant to the office she holds.

The lobby group condemned these remarks as an appalling attack on the governor’s person and a gross affront to the dignity of women, emphasizing the need for a public apology to rectify the situation.

“These disgraceful remarks callously uttered to a cheering crowd, represent an appalling attack on the Governor’s person. The statements are a gross affront to not only the Governor but also to the dignity of women everywhere,” the statement further read.

The Coalition Against Sexual Violence (CSV) commended the Senate plenary for its majority decision to retain Kawira Mwangaza as the Meru governor. The statement emphasized the significance of ensuring that accusations against leaders are substantiated and meet the required threshold objectively.

This comes after the Senate plenary dismissed an impeachment motion against Governor Mwangaza, which had been initiated by Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) from Meru.
