Gunmen Attack GSU Camp

Cattle rustlers launched a brazen assault on a General Service Unit (GSU) camp located in Kapindasum, situated within Baringo County. This audacious attack unfolded on a Tuesday, commencing at 10 a.m. and persisting for more than two hours.

Local law enforcement officials in Baringo, in conjunction with community administrative officers, including William Koech, the chief of Arabal location, corroborated the incident’s timeline.

Moreover, initial accounts suggest that the cattle rustlers not only targeted the GSU camp but also encircled the adjacent Kapindasum Primary School, posing a significant threat to the safety and security of the surrounding area.

The audacity and scope of this attack have raised concerns within the community and law enforcement agencies alike.

However, it was unclear whether they had taken any occupant hostage.

Teachers and students at the school are currently held in their classrooms as they wait for the police to contain the situation. GSU officers were also said to have been cornered after the bandits sealed escape routes.

The motive behind the attack is also yet to be known, as the cattle rustlers have not issued any demands as of now. However, the attack may be perceived as a retaliatory attack to the ongoing joint Kenya Defence Forces and Police operation to flash out armed militia in the region.

Bandits may have also targeted the camp to steal weapons including firearms and ammunition.

“At around 10 am, bandits attacked the GSU camp in Kapindasum. There are reports that the incident may have also involved a school. When I talked to the teacher, I was told they were afraid.

“They are reported to have surrounded the school and the gunshots can be heard,” an NTV reporter who spoke with a police boss in the region announced.
