Turkana Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai, a member of the opposition party Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), has publicly voiced his endorsement for extending the presidential term to seven years, with a specific focus on allowing President William Ruto to serve for 14 years. Lomorukai’s support for this extension was conveyed on a Thursday.

He cited President Ruto’s impressive track record in delivering essential services as the primary reason for his advocacy, emphasizing the need for Ruto to have additional time to solidify his legacy.

Furthermore, despite being a first-term governor, Lomorukai shared his aspirations to succeed President Ruto as the head of the nation following Ruto’s retirement.

This announcement not only underscores his confidence in Ruto’s leadership but also reveals his own presidential ambitions, setting the stage for a potential future transition in leadership.

“After your 14 years, I will be president. As Turkana County Governor from the onset, I vowed to work with you,” Lomorukai, who assumed power in August 2022, stated during the Turkana Cultural and Tourism Festival opening ceremony in Lodwar town termed Tobonglore.
