GOVERNOR ARRESTED TWO MONTHS AFTER SWEARING IN.

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) was given the green light to arrest Turkana governor, Jeremiah Lomorukai, accused of forging his academic papers.

EACC on Thursday, October 27, confirmed that Lomorukai was still on the commission’s radar despite the governor seeking an order barring the detectives from arresting him.

Lomorukai, on Wednesday, October 26, filed a suit in an Eldoret court, seeking anticipatory bail over his impending arrest.

Consequently, the Eldoret granted him the anticipatory bail of Ksh20,000 pending the hearing of his case.

However, the court adjourned the case from Thursday, October 27, to November 7 to allow EACC to grill the governor.

The integrity watchdog commission affirmed its intention to continue with the probe maintaining that the arrest would be conducted respectfully.

These developments came barely three months after the governor was sworn into office. Lomorukai, who contested on an ODM ticket, trounced former Mining Cabinet Secretary, John Munyes.

EACC Chief Executive Officer Twalib Mbarak, in August 2022, raised reservations against the credentials presented by the governor before being cleared to vie for the seat.

“Following investigations, EACC established that both the governor’s degree and diploma certificates were fake, thus rendering the governor liable to criminal prosecution,” the EACC stated.

Notably, the High Court in September 2022 voided a law

requiring gubernatorial candidates to have a degree as the minimum academic level.

High Court judge, Antony Mrima, in his ruling, stated that the law was unconstitutional.
