What Caused Senior Police Officer to End His Life

Superintendent Ezra Ouma, a senior police officer, ended his life by shooting himself in the chin at his residence in Utawala, Nairobi.

Ouma, who was in charge of the special operations bureau at Kayole police division, took this drastic step today afternoon.

Prior to this tragic event, he had confided in a fellow police officer, informing her of his intention to take his own life.

Colleagues describe Ouma, who was due to retire in two years, as a dedicated and respected officer within the division.

The incident took a darker turn when Ouma, in his distressed state, also shot a neighbor in the leg when the latter tried to save him from proceeding with the painful act.

The injured man was quickly rushed to the hospital in serious condition.

Workmates revealed that Ouma could have been battling depression probably caused by extortion and threats since he had been a victim of the two.

A Beretta pistol with 12 bullets was found at the scene of suicide. An autopsy will be conducted at a local morgue where the body is being preserved.
