Moses Kuria Ditches Gachagua’s Meeting

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua presided over a significant Cabinet Committee gathering at his Karen residence on Thursday. This event occurred shortly after President William Ruto implemented a cabinet reshuffle.

The meeting brought together 11 cabinet secretaries, focusing on the critical task of assessing ministerial objectives.

The government is committed to fulfilling its campaign promises, and this meeting aimed to ensure effective progress towards those goals.

Notably, Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria was noticeably absent from this gathering. While Gachagua chaired the meeting, Kuria was engaged in launching an industrial park in Garissa County, which drew his attention away from the discussions in Karen.

Earlier in the day, Kuria pointed fingers at DP Gachagua, blaming him for losing the Trade docket after President William Ruto reassigned him to the Public Service Ministry.

In a statement sent to a local media house by Gachagua’s office, the Deputy President explained that the meeting resolved to fast-track the implementation of government projects.

“We are keen on faster and more effective implementation of the Bottom Up Economic Transformation Agenda as directed by President William Ruto.

“At Karen Official Residence today, I chaired a Cabinet Sub-Committee to align our inter-ministerial targets and objectives for the quicker realisation of the President’s agenda,” he stated.

Among the CS who attended the meeting were Kithure Kindiki (Interior), Njuguna Ndungu (Treasury), Eliud Owalo (ICT), Susan Nakhumicha (Health),  Ezekiel Machogu (Education), Kipchumba Murkomen (Transport).

CS Soipan Tuya of Environment, Florence Bore (Labour), Aden Duale (Defence) and Simon Chelugui (Cooperatives) were also in attendance.

Notably, only one of the reshuffled Cabinet Secretaries, Peninah Malonza attended the meeting.

Malonza was moved from the Tourism docket to the East Africa Community (EAC) Ministry which was previously held by Rebecca Miano who is now in charge of Trade and Investments.

By the time of publishing this piece, reasons why the reshuffled CSs did not attend the meeting were not clear, however, a number of them including Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and Miano are reported to be out of the country on official duty.

The whereabouts of Tourism CS Alfred Mutua are yet to be known. Mutua was moved from the Foreign Affairs docket that was handed over to Musalia.
