50 Senators Near Brush With Death After Pilot’s Swift Action

The senators have been in Lodwar, Turkana county where they had taken their senate mashinani sittings in a bid to strengthen devolution.

During their stay, they had an opportunity to interact with the members of the county assembly of turkana and shared extensively on legislation.

Having finished their business, its was now time for the honorable members to board their plane back to Nairobi.

Among the 50 Senators who were set to travel in the same plane that had come to pick them were united democratic alliance (UDA)party senators who were set to Attend the party’s national governing council (NGC) meeting on September 29, Friday morning.

However, their flight had to be canceled at the eleventh hour after the pilot identified a mechanical problem in the plane.

The legislators will now have to spend the night in Turkana county once more following the mishap.

According to media reports, the speaker of the senate Amason Jeffa kingi has already called president William Samoei Ruto to inform him.

President Ruto will be meeting the rulling party’s top decision making organ ahead of the planned party elections.

The development has raised questions about the safety of the elected leaders while traveling.

Meanwhile, The fifty senators are lucky to be alive as the worst would have happened had the pilot not made the crucial discovery before takeoff.

It now remains to be seen whether this incident will trigger heightened inspection of planes before they are cleared to carry passengers.
