Luos Next Kingpin Unveiled

The ongoing bi-partisan negotiations between the government and the opposition alliance has given a clue of how opposition team may line up in the 2027 general elections.

According to information given by Nation in their weekly reports, Raila Odinga could be preparing his successors as he eyes to shelve his presidential ambition ahead of next general elections.

According to the news outlet, Odinga is already grooming Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka to run for presidency in 2027 having trusted him with the responsibility to lead the opposition team for talks.

“Mr Musyoka’s position in the negotiations places him ahead of the pack in Mr Odinga’s succession plans should the former premier opt not to run in the next election.” The paper wrote on Sunday report.

The idea has been supported by Kakamega County Deputy Governor Ayub Savula who says that giving Kalonzo the role in the negotiations is going to give the former Vice-president serious clout in the national politics.

The former lawmaker opined that what Raila has done is nothing but to basically endorse Kalonzo who he says will be the man if Raila opt not to throw his hat in the ring for the sixth time.

“It gives Kalonzo a serious clout in national politics. In the event Raila says he is not running, Kalonzo would be the man to look at. It is basically endorsement.” Mr Savula said.

The bi-partisan engagement has also revealed the emergence of National Assembly Minority leader and Ugunja Member of Parliament Opiyo Wandayi who is now seen as Odinga’s most trusted ally from Nyanza region.

Nation reports that the decision by Odinga to make Wandayi Kalonzo’s deputy in the negotiations on the opposition side has elevated the lawmaker to be one of the most influential leaders in Raila’s camp from Nyanza region.

This therefore means that if the Azimio team for talks is a line up ahead of 2027, Wandayi is likely to play the kingpin role for the Luo Nyanza.

“In Nyanza, Wandayi is emerging as one of Mr Odinga’s most trusted allies.” The paper.

“He deputises Mr Musyoka in the talks on the opposition side. His position in the National Assembly as Minority Leader has also elevated him among his peers, making one of the influential figures around Mr Odinga.
