Chances of Miguna Miguna Winning DPP Position

City lawyer Miguna Miguna says he has applied for the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) post.

Miguna, through a tweet shared Monday night said he has formally expressed interest to be Haji’s successor, writing; “For the avoidance of any doubt, YES, I have applied for the position of The Director of Public Prosecutions.”

At present, the panel for recruitment of nominees seeking to replace Haji has been inaugurated.

The seven-member committee was commissioned on June 27 and it comprises COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli, Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) CEO Twalib Mbarak, and Solicitor General Shadrack Mose.

Others are Public Service Principal Secretary Mary Kimonye, Mary Adhiambo Maumga, Roseline Odede, and Richard Onsongo Bush Obwocha.

On June 29, the Public Service Commission (PSC) advertised the DPP job, requiring applicants to have at least 10 years experience as superior court judge or professionally qualified magistrate.

The position became vacant after President William Ruto nominated Noordin Hajito be the new National Intelligence Service (NIS) boss on May 16.

Haji was vetted and approved by Parliament’s Defence and Foreign Relations Committee on June 13 and  sworn in on June 14.

Renowned lawyer Danstan Omari is also among those who have publicly expressed interests in the DPP post.
