NAMES OF THE 5 ADDED COUNTIES

There is a Bill before the National Assembly that is being sponsored by the Kuria East Member of Parliament Marwa Maisori which is seeking to amend the Constitution and have the number of counties which are currently 47, increase to 52.

The bill is seeking to amend the constitution through a referendum to have 5 more counties added to the current forty-seven devolved units.

However, the Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi is concerned about the timing and alarmed by the speed with which the United Democratic Alliance party is proposing constitutional amendments. The Ugunja Member of Parliament is now reading political mischief by the current administration in these developments.

According to details, creation of 5 more counties which would include; Kuria County, Teso County, Mount Elgon County, East Pokot County and Mwingi County would allegedly offer President William Ruto a good scrambling opportunity for votes in 2027.

According to details, this might be a plan by UDA to fix Raila Odinga. This is because some of the counties like Kuria and Teso would be hived from Migori and Busia which are key strongholds of Azimio La Umoja leader Raila Odinga. It is further established that hiving Mt Elgon from Bungoma would further advantage Dr William Ruto politically.
