HOW TO REVERSE MONEY SENT TO WRONG TILL NUMBER

Wondering how to reverse money paid to the wrong M-Pesa till number? This article will guide you through the process of getting your money back.

M-Pesa Till is M-Pesa’s ‘Lipa na M-Pesa’ feature that enables businesses to receive payments from customers.

Every registered merchant on this platform has a unique till number that customers can use to make payments via M-Pesa if they do not have cash. The service is one of the most preferred modes of payment by customers and business owners.

However, just like sending money to the wrong M-Pesa number, you may miss a digit or two and accidentally send money to the wrong M-Pesa Till number.

This can be a frustrating experience since you cannot complete the transaction you intended to make, meaning you will not get the goods or services you were hoping to purchase. You may also feel frustrated and worried about losing your money.

If you ever find yourself in such a situation, do not fret, you can still reverse the transaction and recover your money. However, the process is not similar to reversing money sent to the wrong M-Pesa number where you simply forward the M-Pesa message to 456.

A step-by-step guide to reverse money paid to the wrong M-Pesa Till number

1. Contact Safaricom Customer Care:

The first step is to reach out to Safaricom customer care by dialling 100 or emailing customercare@safaricom.co.ke. Explain the situation and provide details of the transaction, such as the amount sent, the date and time of the transaction, and the Till number to which the money was sent.

2. Wait for a response:

Safaricom will investigate your claim and provide feedback. This includes checking the transaction details and calling the owner of the till number. If they find that you indeed sent the transaction to the wrong M-Pesa Till number, they will start the reversal process.

3. Provide additional information:

If Safaricom requests additional information or documentation to verify your claim, provide it promptly. This may include your ID number, a screenshot of the transaction message, or any other relevant details.

4. Verify the reversal:

Once the reversal process is started, you will receive a notification from Safaricom within 72 hours indicating that the funds have been reversed. You can check your M-Pesa statement to confirm that the funds have been credited back to your account.

That is the process to follow if you accidentally pay money to the wrong M-Pesa till number. Note that there might be instances when the merchant does not cooperate or claims not to have received the funds and refuses to reverse the transaction. In such cases, Safaricom will advice you to report the matter to the police for help.
