DETAILS OF SECRET PHONE CALL THAT UHURU MADE YESTERDAY.

President Uhuru Kenyatta made a surprise phone call to the Azimio La Umoja brigade during a campaign rally in Trans Nzoia county.

The Head of State addressed the crowd after Defence Cabinet Secretary, Eugene Wamalwa, put him on loudspeaker while the Azimio team was campaigning in the area.

Uhuru addressed the Gema community living in Trans Nzoia on Tuesday, July 26, and urged them to vote for the county’s Azimio gubernatorial candidate, George Natembeya.

He endorsed Natembeya, whom he noted is the best fit to take over from governor Patrick Khaemba, who is serving his second and final term.

The president also sent CS Wamalwa Ksh1 million which he directed him to use in buying the attendees lunch after the meeting.

Campaigns in Trans Nzoia have heated up with Natembeya pledging to push for the establishment of a public university in the county if elected governor.

Natembeya noted that education in the county had been affected by the decision of some universities to shut down constituent colleges in the area.

“The establishment of a public university is one of my key agenda in our manifesto. I want to bring hope to poor students who abandoned their studies after constituents of some universities were closed down,” Natembeya stated.

“My administration will work with the national government to establish a university and ensure poor students get adequate bursaries to complete their university education.”

The gubernatorial hopeful remarked that he will work closely with the national government to acquire land owned by the Agricultural Development Corporation (ADC) to put up a university in a bid to boost education.

A recent opinion poll by TIFA showed Natembeya was in the lead in the gubernatorial race with a popularity score of 56 percent.

He was followed by Kiminini Member of Parliament, Chris Wamalwa, with 21 per cent and Wilfred Muraya with two per cent.
