Lugari Member of Parliament (MP) Ayub Savula has decamped from Amani National Congress (ANC) to the newly formed Democratic Alliance Party of Kenya (DAP-K).
DAP-K is headed by Kanduyi MP Wafula Wamunyinyi and was launched in November, 2021.
Savula, who joined Raila Odinga’s Azimio La Umoja Movement last year, is on record saying he could not support One Kenya Alliance (OKA) anymore.
“From today, I’ve left OKA and joined Azimio La Umoja because this is where the country is headed,” Savula said during Raila’s declaration of his quest for presidency on December 10.
Savula then clarified that he was in ANC to stay.
Savula has always disagreed with other ANC leaders including Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala who is leaning towards William Ruto’s camp.
“We cannot team up with Ruto. I cannot allow my party leader to do that,” Savula was quoted last year.
Savula now joins a growing number of leaders from Western Kenya who have decamped from Ford-Kenya and ANC to join Wamunyinyi-led DAP-K.
Tongaren MP Eseli Simiyu and Wamunyinyi became a torn in the flesh of Moses Wetangula’s Ford-Kenya until when they decamped to DAP-K last year.
DAP-K has since endorsed Raila for presidency in this year’s August 9 general election.
