DRAMA: GOVERNOR FERNANDES BARASA SPLITS WITH HIS DEPUTY

A storm is brewing in Kakamega County even before the Governor-elect Fernandes Barasa and his Deputy Governor-elect Ayub Savula are sworn into office.

This is after Savula on Monday, September 12 insisted that he is not a deputy governor but a co-governor.

Savula says there was a pre-election agreement between his party DAP-Kenya, Barasa’s ODM and the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition that the duo will share the county government 50-50, and that is why he dropped out of the Kakamega gubernatorial race and supported Barasa.

“Don’t let anyone lie to you that Savula returned to deputyship, we have divided the county government and the government of Kakamega into two. Barasa has taken half and Savula has taken half.

Constitutionally, Kamagega has ten ministries. Barasa amechukua ministries tano na mimi nimechukua tano. I am not a deputy governor, I am a co-governor,” Savula said in a tweet.

Savula insists that the pre-election deal was also signed by him, Barasa, Azimio Party leader Raila Odinga, and outgoing Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya.

DAP-Kenya distances itself
Savula’s party, the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-Kenya) has since distanced itself from Savula’s remarks.

The party says that it will support Governor-elect Barasa to deliver on his promises to Kakamega people.

“As a coalition partner, we shall support Barasa Fernandes to deliver to Kakamega County people on his promises pegged on #MaendeleoNaUsawa devoid of sideshows and blackmails. We have an agreement to deliver devolution fruits to the people after the swearing in on Thursday,” DAP-Kenya said in a tweet.
