KTN TV GOES OFF AIR

Viewers and listeners of Standard Group media stations were on Wednesday, December 30 unable to access the channels  on their devices.

The media company which is home to KTN Home, KTN News, BTV,  Farmers TV and radio stations Radio Maisha, Vybez Radio and Spice FM had their transmissions interrupted causing the TV channels and radio stations to go off air for two hours.

“This is to inform our viewers and listeners that we are experiencing a technical hitch affecting our TV and Radio signals on our broadcast platforms,” the company explained.

The only service that was accessible during the period was the audio-visual content on the Standard website.

The technical difficulties were, however, overcome when the engineers sorted out the issue with the transmission system.

“All our TV and Radio services are now back. We apologise for the inconvenience caused by the technical hitch we experienced and sincerely thank you for staying tuned in,” a statement was put across all their social media channels.

KTN was established in 1990 as Kenya’s first private TV station and has been rated as the No. 2 TV station  in the country. 

According to the latest Audience Measurement and Broadcasting Industry Trends Report Q2 2019-2020 release in December 2019, Citizen TV (48%), KTN  Home (11.9%) and Inooro TV (10.4 %) were ranked as the most popular free-to-air stations.

In July 2015, Standard group launched KTN News as a 24 hours news channel for breaking news, live coverage and non-stop current affairs programs from Kenya, across Africa and the world.

In the radio sector, Radio Maisha was ranked third after Radio Citizen and Radio Jambo in a 2020 report by the Media Council of Kenya (MCK).

Media freedom has been a hot issue when all the major channels were switched off in 2018  for covering the swearing-in ODM leader Raila Odinga as the people’s president.
