MAN FORCED TO DRINK MUD BY POLICE OFFICERS DIES

Another man, who was arrested during the Kianjokoma demonstrations in Embu county, in the wake of the murder of two brothers has died.

Following the demise of Benson Njiru and Emmanuel Muturi, Kianjokoma residents held a demonstration on Thursday, August 5, and it was during the protests that James Muchangi was arrested.

After the arrest, Muchangi, together with several others were allegedly tortured by the police and he, unfortunately, succumbed on Thursday, September 9 to injuries sustained.

” I was thoroughly beaten by the police, I didn’t know what was happening, I was arrested while I was running my own errands. We were tortured and forced to drink mud, my tongue got hurt in the process,” said Muchangi in an interview with NTV before his death.

According to Muchangi’s mother Mary Njiru, the 42-year-old developed complications from injuries sustained after being brutalised by the police.

On the material day of his death, Njiru said her son started vomiting coloured substances and died while being rushed to the hospital.

A post-mortem report indicated he succumbed to a blunt object forced trauma. Muchangi’s death raised the number of casualties from the Kianjokoma killings to four.

These include the two brothers and another protestor who died earlier.
