WOMAN ARRESTED FOR DEFILING A 17 YEAR OLD BOY.

A 22 years old woman is now under police custody in Kehancha police station, Kuria West in Migori County after she was arrested for allegedly defiling a 17 years old boy.

According to the officer in charge of Children’s rights in Kuria West Mr. James Omondi who confirmed this issue, the suspect is said to have committed this illegal act with the form 2 student at Hisbania town last week.

Mr. Omondi further stated that the lady had already been taken to court however she was again detained at Kehancha police station to pave way for further investigation. Omondi who later spoke to the Royal Media reporter said that the victim (boy) had narrated to the authorities how the suspect had invited him to her house where this heinous act occurred.

“You know this is not very common because those who complain in most cases are females but now here is a case where a woman has defiled a young boy. When talking about defilement you should not only speak about the girl-child, you should also think about the boy-child. Many boys are being defiled but are in silent,” said Omondi.

Well, this comes at a time when the issue of age consent has been of a great concern in the country especially because of the new social dynamics in the society. During one grilling of Justice Chitembwe for the post of Chief Justice, this matter emerged as strongly and as controversial as possible.

There have been calls from different interest groups for the age of consent to be reviewed however it has not yet been done. At one time in 2020 a Human Rights Activist had suggested that the age of consent be reduced from 18 to 16.

Well, let’s try to decipher this; the suspect in the Migori case is 22 years which means she was born in 1999 while the victim is 17 years which means he was born in 2004. This makes them logically people from the same age set because the age difference is around 5 years however the law states otherwise.
