VIDEO OF MAGUFULI REVEALING HE WAS POISONED RESURFACES

A week after his death, an emotional video of Tanzanian President John Pombe Magufuli revealing he had several enemies who wanted him dead has resurfaced.

The former Chama Cha Mapinduzi party leader opened up about his brush with death after being poisoned by ‘jealous’ ministers who worked under the late President Benjamin Mkapa in a video trending online.

“I remember working with President Benjamin Mkapa. He once termed me as his first aide due to the good work I was doing in the Ministry of Infrastructure Development. I can never forget the incident because, despite Mkapa’s positive sentiments, it landed me in trouble,” Magufuli said.

Magufuli, who was nicknamed the bulldozer during his tenure at the ministry due to his no-nonsense approach to work, said after receiving praises for his excellent performance, some high-ranking officials began to plot his downfall.

“I started seeing signs that some high-ranking government ministers started hating me. I was poisoned in Dodoma and almost lost my life. But due to God’s grace, I escaped death. I even thought of resigning but Mkapa advised me to continue working,” he narrated.

In another resurfaced video, the late Tanzanian leader also said that he made many enemies, including from foreign countries, after he stopped multinational corporations from mining gold in the country at the expense of locals.

“Our gold is being mined and exported even as our citizens suffer from poverty. The locals are being chased away from locations rich in mineral resources so they (foreigners) can mine and benefit on their own. When I came into power, I stopped this and asked them to come to the negotiating table. This earned me a lot of enemies,” Magufuli said.

Magufuli died on March 17 of heart-related complications that he had been fighting for more than 10 years.

Vice President Samia Suluhu was sworn in as the first female head of state in the East African nation after he died.
