MAGUFULI BANS TAKING OF SELFIES

Tanzania President John Magufuli has warned the newly appointed Cabinet members against taking selfies when launching government projects.

The second-time head of state gave this warning while presiding over the swearing-in ceremony of 21 new ministers and 22 assistant ministers in State House Dodoma.

Speaking during the ceremony on Wednesday, December 9, Magufuli also warned the new Cabinet members against leaking the country’s secrets and to instead implement the government’s agenda in their various ministries.

“Secrets in the government are leaking. In matters of government, we have to abide by the oaths we have taken,” the president said.

He said it was easy to tell a performing Cabinet member and one who was not.

Magufuli inaugurated his Cabinet just two months after he won the hotly-contested October 26, presidential election.

Magufuli of Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) received 12.5 million votes (85%) while his main challenger, Tundu Lissu of the Chadema party, got 1.9 million votes (13%).

Lissu who came in second dismissed the election results saying the exercise was marred with widespread irregularities.

He claimed his agents were prevented from accessing polling stations during the election which he termed as a travesty but NEC dismissed the claims of fraud.

Speaking after receiving his winner’s certificate, Magufuli assured his countrymen that he will not go for a third term after the end of his second term.
