RUTO FORMS A COALITION WITH 14 GOVERNORS

It seems Ruto and his strategists have given up on getting an endorsement from President Uhuru Kenyatta. It seems their relationship is beyond repair prompting Ruto to look for alternative ways to clinch the presidency in 2022.

One of the ways is having key politicians by his side. Earlier on February, Ruto had brought together around 200 Members of Parliament in a show of might as he prepares to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta.

It is now emerging that Ruto is moving further in his plan to form a formidable force heading to general elections. According to Kenyan Constitution (2010) governors can only serve for a maximum of two terms.

With most governors on their final term, it is reported that Ruto has entered in a secret pact with 14 outgoing governors. They have promised to back him for presidency.

Perhaps the alliance is being kept under wraps for fear of harassment by state machinery. Impeached governors Ferdinand Waititu and Mike Sonko have claimed one of the reasons they fell out with the president is for appearing to warm up to the hustler narrative.

Ruto has also got backing from several first term governors whom in exchange will get his support as they seek a second term. It has not yet been revealed the positions to be given to the outgoing governors if William Ruto is elected as fifth president of Kenya.
